COURSE OVERIEW |

This is an advanced track course that focuses on designing, deploying, and troubleshooting Layer 2 and Layer 3 provider-provisioned virtual private networks (VPNs) solutions. This course has recently been updated to address the latest VPN features available in JUNOS Release 6.3.
The class focuses on standards-based Layer 2 and Layer 3 provider-provisioned VPNs with emphasis on the Layer 3 VPNs concepts discussed in RFC 2547bis, BGP/MPLS VPNs, as well as support for Layer 2 VPNs based on the signaling techniques described in draft-kompella-ppvpn-l2vpn, MPLS-based Layer 2 VPNs. The updated course materials feature detailed coverage of the Carrier-of-Carriers and Interprovider VPNs features in addition to the IPSec/2547bis integration and Martini-based Layer 2 VPN capabilities offered in JUNOS software release 5.2. Additional modules discuss VPN configuration options, scalability issues, and the interpretation of operational-mode screen dumps. VPN troubleshooting methodology is demonstrated throughout the course.
This is an intensive hands-on course, with students participating in a variety of configuration and troubleshooting scenarios. Each student team controls their own provider edge (PE) and customer edge (CE) router pairing, with the class sharing three provider routers that form the provider core.
